Computer Education Program

The Indo-American Center’s Computer Education program provides clients with basic technology training and access to computers. A combination of closed-enrollment classes, open internet café time, and a volunteer mentorship program allow students to gain the computer skills they need.

Computer Classes

The Computer Education program offers beginning and intermediate computer skills classes. Beginning students learn the basics of computer hardware, software, and the internet, successfully creating and utilizing email accounts that allow them to keep in touch with family members outside of the United States and pursue employment opportunities. As intermediate students, they learn Microsoft Word and Excel, advanced internet browsing, and file organization. Also focusing on typing skills, these classes give students a basic technology framework upon which they can build.

Technology Empowerment Program

The Indo-American Center’s Technology Empowerment Program is a mentorship program connecting volunteers with computer students once a week for one to two hours. Volunteers and clients meet at the Indo-American Center in the afternoons Monday through Saturday to practice and develop computer skills based on client need. This program allows for additional support for clients outside of regular class time.

Internet Cafe

For a few hours each day, the lab becomes open to the public for personal use. Students and adults utilize computers to check email, complete assignments, practice typing, and web surfing.
