Weekend with Dr. A. P. J. Abdul Kalam, Former President of India

Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, eleventh President of India, visited Chicago in April 2011 at the invitation of the Indo-American Center.  His activities in Chicago included a public address and reception, which took place the evening of Sunday, April 24, 2011, as well as smaller addresses to students.

Before becoming President of India in 2002, Dr. Kalam was best known for his innovative work in science and engineering.  Since exiting the Presidential office in 2007, he continues to advocate for India's place as a knowledge superpower by 2020.

Essay Contest

In honor of Dr. Kalam's accomplishments, the Indo-American Center, with the cooperation of the Indo-American Heritage Museum, hosted an essay contest for high school students.  Educational awards for the winners will be sponsored by the Blackstone Group, PenPal Notes (PenpalNotes.com), and Mr. Roshan Goel.
