The Indo-American Center's 2011 Fall Benefit Gala was a great success!
The theme for the evening was "A Portrait of the Community" as we celebrated 21 years of service and announced plans for expansion of our space. The evening highlighted the eight main programs offered by IAC. We focused on how we can continue to provide these programs, as well as expanding our programs to address the growing demand for our services to be offered in our community.
We had a lot to celebrate at the Indo-American Center in 2011. Some highlights include:
Early 2011: IAC'sL21 Board is reestablished and energized as our junior board. Comprised of young professionals, L21 is committed to IAC's mission, and to educate and encourage other young professionals to get involved with our organization.
IAC hosted the Chicago City-Wide Literacy Coalition Holiday Party on Friday, December 9th from 1-4pm.
The literacy coalitions represented are the South Side Literacy Coalition, West Side Literacy Coalition, Hispanic Literacy Coalition, and North Side Literacy Coalition.
IAC will be hosting our Youth Holiday Party on Friday, December 16th at 4:00pm. We look forward to celebrating the holidays with our clients in our Youth Program. The afternoon will include a dance performance, dinner, and gifts for our youth participants.
IAC will be hosting our Senior's Holiday Party on Thursday, December 22nd at 11:00am.
The Seniors' Program will be heading downtown today to participate in Senior Fest in Millenium Park. With games, art, dancing, and performances, the seniors will have a busy day downtown! For more information on the event, visit online at the City of Chicago.
The Youth Program's Summer Camp will end with a culmination of their work in an art show from 5:30-7:00 pm on August 25. This Summer Puppet Performance will be an art show and puppet performance using the puppets created by youth program participants with artists from the Shanti Foundation.
IAC recently had four students graduate from Intermediate Computer classes. New classes started August 10th with expected graduation date next month. The Computer program has two levels, Beginner and Intermediate and last thirty days.
Bollywood Actress Tabu visited the Center on July 10th, 2011 in conjunction with the "Eye on India" celebration. Tabu previewed exclusive clips from her upcoming films, as well as spoke to guests at the Center. After her visit, guests enjoyed a feast catered by Gaylord India Restaurant.
The Center organized a Youth Cricket League this Summer. Thirty High school students from Mather HS participated this Summer. Our Cricket league is a noncompetitive league with a goal for our youth to make friends and have fun. Every participant has received a Certificate of Performance at the end of the program. Also they have enjoyed a pizza and soda party at the IAC after the certificate ceremony.
