The Public Benefits Assistance Program assists clients in applying for public benefits and various forms of assistance, including Medicaid/Medicare, Food Stamps, Disability Benefits, Social Security/Supplemental Income, LIHEAP, and Healthcare coverage. With a multi-lingual program coordinator and staff, the program combats the three most common barriers clients face in ensuring their welfare – complicated procedures required to receive public benefits, ability to communicate in English, and persistence of misinformation related to public benefits.

Through a project jointly funded by the Chicago Department of Family and Support Services and Chicago Community Trust, IAC’s Public Benefits Assistance Program is also helping the city to conduct Benefit Eligibility Check-ups for seniors in the community. Program staff uses the check-ups, which quickly identify programs for which seniors are eligible, prior to completing specific applications.
