VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES

Seniors Program:
The Indo-American Center is seeking volunteers to work with a diverse group of seniors participating in its Senior Sangam program. Goals of the Senior Sangam program include improving the quality of life for seniors in the community while increasing their sense of belonging. Regular volunteers are needed weekdays and weekends to interact with seniors in recreational, educational, and cultural activities at the center and to accompany program participants on group trips around the city and to assist with project planning and completion.

Adult Literacy:
The Indo-American Center is seeking volunteer tutors for its adult literacy program. Volunteers are needed on weekday and weekend morning to work one-on-one or in groups with adults learning English as a second language. No second language experience is necessary, though any knowledge of Hindi, Urdu, or Gujarati would be helpful. Volunteers are trained in ESL tutoring through a series of informative sessions.

Computer Education:
Individuals interested in assisting instructors as volunteers in teaching computer courses in Microsoft Windows, Office, keyboarding, and Internet literacy to adults and seniors at the Indo-American Center are needed. We have a fully networked computer lab with broadband capability and need motivated and dedicated volunteers with IT experience in helping individuals in the community develop needed computer skills.
